The Lost Garden


Inspirada em mitos de jardins perdidos e no papel das estufas, esta instalação imersiva explora a presença cada vez menor da natureza num mundo cada vez mais moldado pela atividade humana. Mitos como o Jardim do Éden, os Jardins Suspensos da Babilónia e o Outro Mundo Celta oferecem metáforas do paraíso, do desejo humano e da perda da harmonia com a natureza. Estas histórias refletem frequentemente as falhas humanas – como a desobediência ou o orgulho – e recordam-nos um passado ideal que nunca poderá ser totalmente restaurado.

Situada na estufa do Museu de Lisboa – Palácio Pimenta, onde a luz artificial sustenta a vida das plantas, “The Lost Garden” [O Jardim Perdido] é construída com materiais industriais, como cabos elétricos e projeções de laser que imitam a poluição luminosa urbana. À medida que os visitantes se deslocam pelo espaço, os feixes de laser movem-se, simbolizando a contínua luta e resiliência da natureza face à interferência humana. Em vez de plantas verdadeiras, flores e árvores artificiais, feitas com materiais industriais, evocam a memória de um jardim outrora próspero, agora perdido.


Mathieu Le Sourd, também conhecido como MAOTIK, é um artista digital francês focado na criação de ambientes imersivos, instalações interativas e performances audiovisuais que operam na interseção da arte, ciência e tecnologia. MAOTIK cria ambientes imersivos através do uso de algoritmos gerados por computador, transformando perceções da realidade em tempo real com as suas ferramentas generativas desenvolvidas por si. Maotik é fortemente inspirado pela natureza e representa a sua essência de forma abstrata, criando esculturas audiovisuais que são baseadas na aleatoriedade e únicas a cada vez. Nos últimos anos, o seu trabalho foi apresentado em festivais e instituições internacionais em todo o mundo, como Mutek, Sonar, Oi Futuro no Rio, Art Basel, Frieze London, FIAC Paris, Signal Festival em Praga, BFI em Londres, ARS Electronica em Linz, Miraikan Science Museum em Tóquio, B39 em Seul, Funkhaus em Berlim e Philharmonie em Paris.
